Chhattisgarh, as a state came into being on 1st November 2000 as the 26th State of the Indian Union. Prior to this time, it was a part of the Madhya Pradesh state. Its creation fulfils the long-cherished demand of the tribal people from the region. Its area is 1,36,034 sq km  and has a population of 20,795,956. It has 11 parliamentary constituencies. Prinicpal language of the state is Hindi.
