Punjab

Punjab is situated in the north-west of the country and has international border with Pakistan. PEPSU (Patiala and the East Punjab States Union) was merged with Punjab in 1956. Later in 1966, Haryana was carved out of Punjab. Punjab is one the most affluent states in India. Punjab State has been awarded National Productivity Award for the agriculture services for consecutively ten years from 1991-92. Punjab has one the most progressive economy of India with an average growth rate of 10%. Its population is 24,358,999 and area is 50,362 sq km. The principal language of the state is Punjabi. It has 13 parliamentary constituencies.
