Solapur is one of the important constituencies of the state of Maharashtra due to the reason that the senior congress leader and cabinet minister Sushil Kumar Shinde contested from here and got elected. His main rivals were Bansode Sharad Maruti of the BJP and Pramod Ramchandra Gaekwad of the BSP and in total there were 13 candidates in the fray.
