Lucknow is one of the important parliamentary constituencies in the state of Uttar Pradesh due to the reason that senior BJP leader Lalji Tondon and Rita Bahuguna of Congress contested from here. This seat had attracted huge media attention owing to the announcement of Sanjay Dutt ( popular bollywood actor) as a candidate from SP, but later he had to give up his candidature and Nafisa Ali replaced him. In total there were 43 candidates in the fray.
Lalji Tandon won the contest by defating his nearest rival with a confortable margin of over 40000 votes.
