Rampur is one of the important constituencies of Uttar Pradesh state due to the reason that bollywood star and a politician Jaya Prada of Samajwadi Party contested from here. She was the sitting MP from this seat in 2004 general election & got re-elected in 2009. Her main fight was with Begum Noor Bano of Congress and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi of BJP. In total there were 16 candidates in the fray.
