Gurdaspur is one of the important constituencies of Punjab state due to the reason that bollywood Star and a politician Vinod Khanna of BJP has contested from here. He was the winner of 2004 General elections and this time (2009) his main rival was Partap Singh Bajwa of Congress. In total there were 13 candidates in the fray.

Vinod Khanna lost to Partap Sing Bajwa of Congress.
